The benefits of BCAA’s are well established and have been so within the weight training community for many years. However, it's only recently that BCAA's have become "in-vogue" again and it's all down to the great science supporting their effects and the versatilty they offer, imparting their positive effects on a variety of athletes, not just bodybuilders.
Over the last 20 years, BCAA's have had m ore comebacks than Sinatra did, but all for great reasons- they work and are supported by science in a far more solid way than many other "wonder supplements".
Branched Chain Amino Acids consist of 3 essential amino acids Leucine, Iso-Leucine, and Valine. They are considered essential amino acids because human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet. Together they comprise approximately 1/3 of human muscle tissue. One of these BCAA's, Leucine is a real good guy when muscle-building is your primary goal and especially if you are cutting carbs or calories at the same time to achieve a lean physique. Leucine (as featured within Pharma Whey HT+) literally acts as a trigger for muscle growth. It not only increases the rate of protein synthesis (how much protein we can absorb and use to build muscle), it also could increase the muscle cell's capacity for protein synthesis- so in effect, it widens the target and pulls the trigger.
The benefit's of Branched Chain Amino Acid's don't just stop there though, they have been shown to potentially help reduce the amount of serontonin entering the brain, causing a reduction in the feeling of lethargy (This is one of the reasons why PhD use BCAA's in our market -leading pre workout fat metaboliser, Pre WKT-BURN). Their versatility and ability to act fast, make them a great and immediate energy source and a must to use during a workout.
Because many trainers have now moved on from encapsulated forms of BCAA's and onto "Intra workout drinks" loaded with BCAA's- such as PhD's own Intra BCAA+,
BCAA capsules have become less popular, but they are a great way to conveniently add BCAA's into your training routine before, during or after training. You can even bolster your Intra BCAA+ drink with added BCAA capsules to give you a super charged BCAA-driven workout.
